Boko: Guwahati constituency MP Bijoya Chakraborty laid the foundation stones of seven PWD roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sarak Yojna in Boko and Chaygaon legislative constituencies in the presence of PWD Superintending Engineer Biraj Talukdar, Executive Engineer Naba Kuwor, Assistant Engineer Hiten Kalita and Junior Engineer Saifuddin Ahmed on Friday.

The seven roads are the Alegjari village to West Alegjari village road, Dakuapara to 2 no. Dakuapara road, Nagopara to Bhugdabari road, Singra to Ronshipara road and Sisapith to Bheuwa road. All these roads will be constructed at an estimate of about Rs 16 crore. In Chaygaon constituency, MP Bijoya Chakraborty along with MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed also laid down the foundation stones of two roads - the Choudhurypara to 2 no. Choudhurypara road and Batakuchi to Dakuapara road. Both roads will be constructed at an estimate of Rs 6.78 crore.

Before that, Chakraborty inaugurated a bridge connecting Boko Chamaria to Sontoli, Kalatoli. She addressed the gathering and said that she had tried for long to sanction this bridge in this backward area. Though this bridge has been used for the past two years, she said that it was important to inaugurate it. On the other hand, local villagers staged protest. Kutubuddin Ahmed, one of the protesters, said, “We have not seen her for the last 10 years except during elections. Four schools and one government medical centre were drowned in the Brahmaputra due to river erosion but the MP never bothered to listen to our woes.”

Another villager, Dilbar Hussain said, “Mahtoli village is the biggest village in Kamrup district which has 1,700 voters. In the last 10 years we had not seen the MP. Four LP schools and one health centre drowned in the Brahmaputra due to river erosion but she never bothered. But today she came to inaugurate an old bridge which took 4-5 years to be completed and has been used for the past two years. Local MLA Nandita Das has done a lot of work to control river erosion in the area but she was not invited to this function. So we protest against this.”
