Kokrajhar: The Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) on Wednesday strongly condemned the anti-tribal statement of Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania in Parliament.

In a statement, the president of the BJSM, Janaklal Basumatary said Naba Kumar Sarania was representing 5 no. Kokrajhar ST reserved Parliamentary Constituency. Instead of representing the tribal people, he was representing the non-tribal people, particularly the immigrants and encroachers in tribal notified reserved land, he said, adding that Sarania was a non-tribal and became MP in tribal reserve constituency using fake ST certificate of Boro Kachari although he did not belong to that community and was a non-Boro.

Basumatary reiterated that Sarania indulged in anti-tribal activities. His constitutional duty was to provide constitutional safeguards to the Scheduled Tribe people and to implement socio-economy and political rights for overall development as envisaged in the Constitution. But, alleged Basumatary, Sarania was ignoring his constitutional duty and condemning the tribal people.

Basumatary said that the ‘anti-tribal’ statement made by Naba Kumar Sarania was totally false as non-tribals still enjoyed the higher social status, had better economics means with higher-level skills and were capable to snatch the constitutional rights of tribal weaker sections of the society. He added that tribals were still socially and economically exploited by the advanced non-tribals.

BJSM has appealed to the Speaker to take necessary action against Naba Kumar Sarania for his ‘anti-tribal utterances and anti-constitutional activities’ and to the Government of Assam to ban the political party and army formed by Naba Kumar Sarania.
