MP Topon Kumar Gogoi inaugurates renovated auditorium of Sibsagar Press Club

 Additional Rs 3 lakh grant announced

SIVASAGAR: With an endeavour to provide better facilities and services to its members and society, the newly-renovated Ujjal Dutta Memorial Auditorium of Sibsagar Press Club (SPC) was inaugurated. Jorhat Lok Sabha MP Topon Kumar Gogoi formally inaugurated the renovated auditorium in presence of district administration officials, journalists, representatives of various organizations and leading citizens of Sivasagar recently.

The auditorium was renovated on an outlay of Rs 5 lakh released from the MP’s Development Fund, after the Management Committee of Sibsagar Press Club submitted a petition to MP Topon Kumar Gogoi requesting for reconstruction of the Ujjal Dutta Memorial Auditorium which had been in a dilapidated state due to lack of repair for a long time.

Inaugurating the auditorium, MP Topon Kumar Gogoi lauded the efforts of the management committee and members of SPC for this remarkable job and their contributions in leading the society through positive and constructional news. Gogoi expressed hope that the journey of new creation will begin from this beautiful auditorium as it will cater the needs of its members and people who used to come to the club for various purposes. Gogoi also announced an additional grant of Rs 3 lakh in view of the high cost of construction for the sophisticated air-conditioned auditorium. He also promised to provide all kinds of assistance for the construction in the vacant area behind the club.

Attending the inaugural event, Sivasagar District Development Commissioner Bitupan Neog said the modernization of the auditorium has fulfilled a long standing problem of SPC.

Earlier, general secretary of SPC Khalilur Rahman Hazarika spoke about the objectives of the event, while president of SPC and Principal of Gargaon College Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta delivered the welcome address. Dr Mahanta in his brief speech, fondly remembered the late members who established the foundations of the prestigious Sibsagar Press Club. Sharing the three-decade long history of the club, Dr Mahanta said the club has been involved in the development of the socio-economic and sports sectors of Sivasagar and has always stood firm in times of disasters. In the event, MP Topon Kumar Gogoi was honoured with a letter of felicitation, xafura, seleng and gamosa as a mark of gratitude by the Sibsagar Press Club.
