LAKHIMPUR: The political parties and the independent candidates in Lakhimpur district are all set to fight in the ensuing Municipal Board Election, 2022. Notably, the polling of this election will be held on March 6.

After the withdrawal of nomination, a total of 128 candidates are in fray in the four municipal boards under Lakhimpur district. With the last date for withdrawal of the candidature, altogether 8 candidates withdrew their nominations on Sunday.

As per report, a total of 62 candidates filed their nominations in 21 wards under North Lakhimpur Municipal Board. Out of them four candidates withdrew their papers on Sunday while one candidate withdrew the same on February 17. The independent candidates withdrew their nominations from Ward No. 3(B), Ward No. 7, Ward No. 10 and Ward No. 14(B). On the other hand, the Congress candidate of Ward No. 13 withdrew his paper on February 17 and joined BJP on the same day. As a result of it, the BJP candidate of that ward won the seat uncontested.

In the 10 wards under Bihpuria Municipal Board, a total of 27 candidates filed their nominations for the contest in the election. No one of them withdrew their candidature on Sunday.

On the other hand, a total of 24 candidates filed their nominations in the 10 wards under Narayanpur Municipal Board. Out of them, one independent candidate withdrew his candidature from Ward No. 7. After the withdrawal of his nomination, a total of 23 candidates are in fray under Narayanpur Municipal Board.

In Dhakuakhana Municipal Board, a total of 24 candidates filed their nominations. Two independent candidates under this municipal board withdrew their nomination on Sunday. The are Akan Gogoi and Junti Dutta. The former filed his nomination to contest in Ward No. 5 while the latter filed his nomination to contest in Ward No. 9.

The final 22 contestants under Dhakuakhana Municipal Board are— Ward No. 1 : Manoj Gogoi of AGP, Surajit Konwar of Congress and independent candidate Bogen Konwar, Ward No. 2 : Gunalata Lagasu Kutum of BJP, Dipali Lagasu of Congress and independent candidate Jogamaya Patir, Ward No. 3 : Mitali Gogoi of Congress and Sangita Baruah of BJP, Ward No. 4 : Arabinda Sut of Congress and Manik Baruah of BJP, Ward No. 5 : Tilen Das of BJP and Prasanna Borah of Congress, Ward No. 6 : Lalit Das of Congress and Swarup Konear of BJP, Ward No. 7 : Chandama Gogoi of BJP and Jahnabi Borah of Congress, Ward No. 8 : Dipali Das of BJP and Puspa Borah of Congress, Ward No. 9 : Aparupa Dihingiya Dutta of BJP and Pratima Chutia of Congress, Ward No. 10 : Jatin Baishya of Congress and Rajib Das of BJP.
