Music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika remembered on his birth anniversary

SIVASAGAR: To mark the birth anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, a one-day workshop on ‘Bhupendra Sangeet’ was organized at Gargaon College on Friday.

The workshop was organized by the musical wing of Gargaon College Students’ Union in collaboration with IQAC and the Assamese department of the college with an aim to promote and foster the musical legacy of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Renowned academician and Principal of Gargaon College, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta formally inaugurated the workshop in presence of the students, teachers and the invited guests.

While addressing the participants, Dr Mahanta enumerated the significance of the musical legacy as well as the need to preserve and propagate the musical ethos of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. He also mentioned about the contributions of Dr Bhupen Hazarika in different fields. Probin Mohan, a renowned musician, director and teacher of Emon Kalyan Sangeet Vidyalaya, Gargaon, invited as resource person on the occasion, provided valuable insights and guidance to the participants on the songs of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

Dr Ramananda Das, Associate Professor of the department of Political Science, Gargaon College threw light on the life and achievements of Dr Bhupen Hazarika and also highlighted his immortal musical contributions. Dr Rina Handique, Vice Principal of Gargaon College, Dr Pobon Kumar Gogoi, Pronob Dowerah, Associate professors of Political Science and Assamese department and Dr Surajit Saikia, IQAC Coordinator of the college also spoke on the occasion.

The workshop was participated by an encouraging number of students. The participants sung Bhupendra Sangeet in the programme. The participants were provided certificate of participation at the end of the workshop.

LAKHIMPUR: Music maestro, Bharat Ratna, Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika was remembered across the Lakhimpur district by various academic, cultural institutions and social organizations on his 97th birth anniversary on Friday. They paid rich tribute to the bard by organizing cultural programmes, speech events etc. in a befitting manner on the occasion.

Lakhimpur Commerce College observed the 97th birth anniversary of the Sudhakantha in association with the All Lakhimpur Music Association. A function was organized on that occasion by the college, agenda of which began with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by Principal Dr Lohit Hazarika before the portrait of Dr Hazarika.

It was followed by a floral tribute by Professor GK Chetry, the Vice Principal of the college. Professor Sazzad Hussain, Kuldeep Narayan Dutta, librarian Runjun Baruah of Lakhimpur Commerce College and Dr Swapnali Chetia of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) addressed the gathering at the function by shedding lights on the diverse aspects of the life and works of the Sudhakantha. Songs composed by Dr Bhupen Hazarika were rendered by veteran artiste Mridul Baruah and Anneswa Chetia in that function.
