GUWAHATI : All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader, Badaruddin Ajmal made a statement on Sunday, claiming that Muslims in the state of Assam are keeping the Assamese language alive.

The chief mentioned this while addressing an event at Dhubri district. He is of the view that, the legacy and authenticity of Assamese language has been kept alive and preserved by Muslim people in Assam.

Ajmal further asserts, despite this fact, Assamese people acknowledge the Muslims as Bangladeshis who are residing over their land. He backs up his statement by stating that, Assamese language is not used in Bangladesh, so there's no point of referring Muslims in Assam as mere Bangladeshis.

Further, Ajmal highlights the fact that, most of the Muslim people send their kids to Assamese medium institutes in Assam. However, the issue only raises as they do not speak in the language at their homes.

Meanwhile, BJP minister Pijush Hazarika terms Badaruddin Ajmal's comment as 'ridiculous'. The minister back fires with a question that, whether Badaruddin Ajmal himself can speak fluent Assamese or not.

Ajmal himself doesn't know anything about the language as he mixes it up with Bengali and Hindi, the minister added. He further claims that Assamese people are very well aware as to how the language can be preserved and protected. There's no need for Ajmal to do the same, he added.

Badaruddin Ajmal, prior to this statement, was in the buzz for his misogynist claims regarding the correct age for a woman to get marriage. "Make the girls marry at the age of 18-20 and see how many children are born", Ajmal stated.

Following this, he was slammed by several organisations and political parties. Pijush Hazarika while criticising the offensive statement questions Ajmal, what exactly should Assamese people learn from Muslims? To give birth to 15-20 children?
