TEZPUR: MV GangaVilas, the longest river cruise in the world, was accorded a traditional welcome at Tezpur Jahajghat by Sonitpur district administration officials.

Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra, CEO Zilla Parishad Karabi Saikia and others welcomed the tourists to Tezpur. They later visited the ruins at Da-Parbatia and Cole Park, where officials explained the history and importance of the two spots to the tourists. They also appreciated handloom and handicraft products set up on display at Cole Park and traditional Assamese pithas (rice cakes) and ladoos which were served to them.

The tourists were welcomed at Jahajghat with a traditional Nepali dance and Xattriya dancers also put up a performance at Cole Park for the tourists. On February 24, the ship will continue its onward journey to Silghat where the tourists may visit the Jute Cooperative factory. The tourists are likely to spend a full day at Kaziranga National Park during this time. MV Ganga Vilas will continue their onward journey from Silghat to Bogibeel via stoppages at Biswanath Ghat, Kerkerighat, Majuli, and Neamati.
