Mysterious death of SI Junmoni Rabha; Transfer and posting of senior cops evoke mixed reactions

NAGAON: Amidst the controversy over the mysterious death of SI Junmoni Rabh, the urgent transfer and posting of Superintendent of Police Leena Doley and ASP Tridib Kumbang in the same status to different districts of the State, has drawn a mixed reaction from the people of the small town here as the new transfer and posting of these two senior police officers initiated by Dispur, will hamper the entire process of free and fair investigation into the case of SI Junmoni Rabha.

In her FIR, Sumitra Rabha, the mother of the deceased SI, mentioned the names of SP Leena Doley, ASP Tridib Kumbang, OC, Dhing Raja Irshad and SI Abhajyoti Rabha several times while depicting the sequences as well as co-incidences that occurred just before and after the suspicious road mishap on that fatal night. But the higher authority concerned of Assam Police transferred only 2-3 officers to the police headquarters in Guwahati, relaxing SP Leena Doley and ASP Tridib Kumbang, that has apparently increased suspicion on free and fair investigation into the case. Many people opined that they could be closed to the police headquarters in greater interest of the free and fair investigation into the case instead of transferring and posting to other districts.

Sumitra Rabha, the bereaved mother of deceased SI , asserted that SP Leena Doley and ASP Tridib Kumbang quizzed her child for long on the evening on that fatal night. Besides, when she was alone in the quarter SP Leena Doley, ASP Tridib Kumbang and other police personnel forcefully entered the quarter and carried out a surprise raid. During the raid, the police team seized over Rs 1.30 lakh kept by Sumitra Rabha for her ailing son and Rs 3 lakh which had been kept by SI Junmoni Rabha.

Moreover, the police team also took Sumitra’s thump print on a blank piece of paper.
