LAKHIMPUR: The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)-Bangalore has awarded 'B' Grade to Lakhimpur Commerce College in its second cycle after a long gap of 18 years. This was announced by NAAC on Tuesday following the visit of its peer team to the college, which is a pioneer Institute of the State in commerce education.

A NAAC peer team comprising Dr Ajmer Singh Malik, Vice Chancellor, Chawdhury Devi Lal University, Sirsa, Haryana, Dr Siba Udgata, Professor of Computer Science of Hyderabad Central University, Dr Mohammad Khalil Ahmad, Principal, SEMT's MB Harris College of Arts and AE Kalsekar College of Commerce and Management, Mumbai visited Lakhimpur Commerce College on February 3 and February 4 for assessment. The NAAC peer team interacted with the Principal, IQAC, faculties, students and visited the library, women's hostel and the second campus of the college, located at Chukulibharia.

It also met alumni, guardians, college governing body, officials from the district administration and Dibrugarh University during their visit. A book Understanding Global Politics, authored by Prof. Kuldeep Narayan Dutta and Dr Manoj Kumar Sil was also released by the visiting NAAC peer team in the college.

Lakhimpur Commerce College was last accredited by NAAC in 2004. Since then, the college was unable to go for the next cycle of re-accreditation. However, since the assumption of office by Dr Lohit Hazarika as its Principal on December 24, 2021, the process of re-accreditation in the college was accelerated and within a span of one year, the NAAC assessment was conducted.

Following the NAAC accreditation Principal Dr Hazarika congratulated every faculty and office staff for the feat. He also extended his gratitude to the alumni association, ex-teachers and staff, college Governing Body, CDC-Dibrugarh University and Lakhimpur district administration for their cooperation and contribution in achieving the NAAC grade by the college
