JORHAT: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to double farmers’ income by 2022, the National Bank for Agricultural Rural Development (NABARD) is eyeing individuals along with self-help groups in each and every village in Jorhat and Majuli districts to support for integrated farming, said K. Vaiphei, the district development manager of NABARD, in-charge of Jorhat and Majuli districts on Monday.
K Vaiphei said random meetings with self-help groups along with land holding individuals were held in both the districts to discuss how to start micro-business like piggery, fishery, duckery, poultry and dairy and how to get benefit from NABARD with 50 per cent subsidy of loan amount from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
A similar village-level meeting was held at Chengeli Chuk under Titabor subdivision where over 200 women from various SHGs took part and expressed willingness to take up integrated farming along with paddy and green tea leaves business.
The response in Majuli island district was very positive and most individuals and SHGs showed interest of start duckery, goatery and piggery during the meetings held in several areas which were attended by bank managers and State agricultural officials.
