A CORRESPONDENT
NALBARI: ‘The Union’, in collaboration with Nalbari District Tobacco Control Cell, organized an awareness meeting on tobacco control at AMSA Hall on Thursday.
This initiative was taken with the objective of building a tobacco-free society and a healthy world. The programme began with a welcome speech by Dr Subhash Chandra Sarma, Joint Director of Health Services. Dr Kailash Deka, District Tobacco Control Officer, explained COPTA-2003 in detail. He also explained the penalties for violating this law.
Dr Amrit Yadav, senior officer of The Union, explained the diseases caused by tobacco and how it destroys our social environment. They also discussed how to take administrative measures to prevent tobacco or how to build a tobacco-free society by raising awareness among the people. The meeting was attended by Additional Superintendent of Nalbari Medical College, Dr Balendra Narayan Deka, Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Kameshwar Lahkar, and other officials.
