Baithalangso: Thirty passengers had a narrow escape as they came out unhurt after with just two passengers suffering minor injuries after their bus toppled over due to a brake failure.

The accident took place at Tikahill, Baithalangso in Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

The bus bearing registration number AS-09AC-3477 was carrying passengers from Langhamphi (Assam-Meghalaya border) to Hojai.

Bus accidents are being seen frequently nowadays in Karbi Anglong district.

Earlier this year in November three people have died on the spot in a bus-tanker collision. The incident took place while the passenger bus was heading towards Hojai from Dimapur and tried to overtake a truck and knocked the oil tanker coming from the opposite direction.

In another accident, at least seven people were injured when a bus carrying stranded workers from Manipur lost control and hit a tree at Bakalia. Later the injured passengers were taken to Bakalia Community Health center (CHC) where they were provided with first aid and sent to their destinations arranging another bus by the authority. While in June a passenger bus carrying passenger rammed a tree on Diphu-Lumding road which leads to major injuries in two passengers. And in February five people lost their lives on the spot and over 30 people were injured after a speeding bus hit a roadside electric post, overturned, and fell into a ditch in Goalpara district. One passenger died later.

Seriously injured passengers were taken to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) while others were admitted to the Goalpara Civil Hospital.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report 2019, Assam has recorded the maximum casualties from road accidents which caused 3245 deaths. While almost 682 to 285 people died in accidents while travelling by car or bus, 1362 people have died due to two-wheeler accidents.
