Natasurya drama festival at Baan Theatre from July 31

Tezpur: Baan Theatre in association with OIL India Limited and NRL will be organizing the golden jubilee year of cultural icon Phani Sarma Drama Festival with a six-day programme from July 31 at the historic Baan Theatre here. An award will be conferred on theatre personality Krishna Rai with a cash reward of Rs. 20,000 along with gamusa, japi, seleng sador and a memento of Baan Theatre.

While talking to this correspondent, Jitumoni Dev Choudhury, secretary of Baan Theatre, said the festival would start at 10 am with the unfurling of flag and the members of Baan Theatre would pay tributes to the Natasurjya at his crematorium. The inaugural function will be followed by Baan Theatre Award event which will be attended by Bhaben Bora, cultural activist and educationist, Pallab Lochan Das, MP Tezpur, local MLA Brindaban Goswami, Rajen Borthakur, chairman of Assam Text Book Publication, Director of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, Barnali Sharma and Narsing Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur.

Five plays will be staged and on the second day, a play titled Rong Ahey Pakhi Meli, directed by Jibon Bora, will be staged. The plays to be followed thereafter will be Murto-Bimurto-Neel Dipalee, a biopic drama directed by Binod Sarmah, Bhogjara directed by Sujit Sarmah, Basab Dotta directed by Gunakar Devagoswami and Phani Sarma’s most acclaimed play Siraj will be staged first in Boro language, directed by Kusharam Boro.
