LAKHIMPUR: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Annual Training Camp organized from February 1 to February 5 at Chaboti of North Lakhimpur concluded successfully. The camp was conducted under the leadership of Colonel JS Cheema, with the assistance of College NCC Officers Dr Subhanjali Das, Dipali Neog, Binita Saharia, Kalyani Konwar and Sub D K Bhai, Hav Johny, Hav Akhil G and GCI Sangita. All COVID-19 precautions were observed before and during the camp. All cadets in camp were screened for temperature and allowed entry after getting hands sanitized and while wearing masks.

On February 1, the camp started with the arrival of cadets from Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts with an address by Colonel JS Cheema. It was followed by tree plantation and group photo session events. Over last four days of the camp, the cadets underwent varied facets of NCC camp training. They were imparted the skills in drill, WT, map reading. They learnt how to pitch a tent through tent pitching training. The most exciting thing for the cadets was the three-day-long firing training conducted at Seajuli Firing Range. They were also encouraged to indulge in other extracurricular activities like drawing and slogan competitions with Environment and Swachta as theme. In addition to them, some other competitions like tent pitching, firing and overall best cadet competitions were organized. A number of educative talks and seminars were also held for the cadets with the participation of various civil and government departments and personnel. An informative lecture event and demonstration was held for them by a team of National Disaster Response Force, wherein they learnt about life saving skills, evacuation of casualties and first aid. Guest lecture on women empowerment was conducted by a prominent social worker MS Ahmed of North Lakhimpur. It created awareness about gender inequality and further encouraged the girl cadets to have self belief.

Another lecture event and demonstration was held by a team of the Fire Brigade, in a view to impart the skills of extinguishing fire and rescuing people. The cadets envisaged keen interest in learning about it learnt the practical knowledge by extinguishing a mini fire. Lecture events were also conducted by a galaxy of medical officers covering various aspects of medical care, health and hygiene for women in pregnancy. The cadets were also addressed by Traffic Police personnel with the explanation of the nuances of the same. A major thrust was made towards a Swachh Bharat campaign and rallies that were taken out in Chaboti area to generate awareness on cleanliness.
