LAKHIMPUR: A national-level seminar on Padmanth Gohain Baruah, Hemchandra Goswami and Panindranath Gogoi, the three pioneers, who built the foundation of Assamese heritage, was organized at North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) with two-day long agenda. The seminar was held on April 11 and April 12 on the occasion of the yearlong celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of the three prominent personalities under the auspices of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) and Saint Paul's Cathedral Mission College of Kolkata. The main subject-matter of the seminar was "Life and works of Padmanth Gohain Baruah, Hemchandra Goswami and Panindranath Gogoi".
The inaugural season of the seminar was chaired by Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia, Principal of the North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), under the management of Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa, the columnist-cum-Head of the Department of Assamese of the college. In the inaugural session, Assistant Professor of Jagannath Baruah College, Jorhat, Dr. Jyotirekha Hazarika delivered the key-note lecture. "It is impossible to realize the modern period history of Assamese community without the evaluation of the contribution of Padmanth Gohain Baruah, Hemchandra Goswami and Panindranath Gogoi. Only a little part of their lives and works has been studied till date," Dr Jyotirekha Hazarika said in her lecture.
In the programme, AXX chief secretary Jadav Chandra Sarmah and office secretary Ramanandan Borah delivered the welcome speeches. On the other hand, Head of the Department of Bangla, Saint Paul's Cathedral Mission College, Dr. Sheikh Moqbul Hussain threw light on the activities jointly initiated by North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) and his college in 2019 as the outcome of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked between the two noted academic institutions.
In the same programme, 'Bishnu Rabha and Bhupen Hazarika : Relation between Assam and Bengal', written by Dr. Sheikh Moqbul Hussain and jointly published by the two colleges, was released. Dignitaries of Paramacharya Pandit Hemchandra Goswami Smarak Yatra of Golaghat, Golap Saikia, Apurba Hazarika, Pabitra Nath and Mridul Kumar Borah also took part in the session. In the technical sessions of the first day, held simultaneously in four conference halls of the college, over 150 researchers from various college, universities and other institutions of the State presented their research papers on the main subject-matter and the sub-themes of the seminar.
Around 30 researchers presented their papers on the second day technical session. Dr. Goutam Kakati of Madhavdev University, Dr. Prabhat Bhuyan of the Assam University, Dr. Mridul Sarmah of DHB Kanoi College, Dr. Chandra Manse of North Lakhimpur College, Dr. Devapratim Hazarika of Nandanath Saikia College, Titabar, Dr. Chitrajit Saikia of Duliajan College, Dr. Milan Neog of Anandaram Dhekial Phukan College, Nagaon, Dr. Dipakjyoti Mahanta of Goreswar College, Dr. Rajashtee Hazarika of Axam Tatwa Govesona Sangsthan of AXX took part as resource persons of the seminar.
AXX president Kuladhar Saikia appreciated and thanked the Department of Assamese of the North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) for conducting the seminar smoothly and successfully. In the same event, an MoU was inked between the Department of Assamese of the college and Axam Tatwa Govesona Sangsthan of AXX to initiate research works jointly for three years. On the other hand, a decision was taken to organize a national level seminar on 'Bhakti Movement of India' under the auspices of Saint Paul's Cathedral Mission College in 2023. The research papers presented in the seminar will be published as an anthology.
