National Mathematics Day observed in Golaghat

Under the aegis of Assam Academy of Mathematics, Golaghat branch and in association with Hemo Prova Borborah Girls’ College, Golaghat, National Mathematics Day was observed on Wednesday at the HPB Girls’ College premises.

GOLAGHAT: Under the aegis of Assam Academy of Mathematics, Golaghat branch and in association with Hemo Prova Borborah Girls' College, Golaghat, National Mathematics Day was observed on Wednesday at the HPB Girls' College premises.

The programme started with hoisting of flag by Dr Bipul Chandra Bhuyan, president of Assam Academy of Mathematics, Golaghat branch. Then lighting of lamp in front of the portrait of great mathematician Srinivas Ramanujan Ayenger, in whose memory National Mathematics Day is observed, was done by educationist Biman Goswami. Thereafter, a State-level Mathematics quiz competition was organized where students from Class IX to Class XII took part. The Mathematics quiz was conducted by Professor Ankur Bharali from Dibrugarh University. Total 36 teams from different places in the State registered in the quiz competition and after the preliminary round, total six teams were selected for the final round. The first position was bagged by the team of Nabangshu Nir Gogoi and Tadir Doley from DPS Numaligarh. The second position was bagged by the team of Bhargav Protim Bora and Harshdeep Borgohain from Reliance College Junior and the team of Anubrat Bora and Abhigyan Saikia from VKV Golaghat was able to secure third position. The winners were awarded with cash prize and trophies. After the quiz competition, a memorial speech was held. This was organized by Jehirul Hussain Memorial Trust in fond memory of renowned educationist from Golaghat, Jehirul Hussain. Dr Surajit Borkotoky from Dibrugarh University attended as resource person.
