GOLAGHAT: National Mathematics Day was observed on 22nd December, 2021 in Golaghat Polytechnic, Furkating along with the country to commemorate the birth anniversary of the the legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan Aiyengar.
The programme started with the lightening of lamp in honour of the deceased by Dr. Gautam Borthakur, Principal of Golaghat Polytechnic and was coordinated by Siddhartha Protim Gogoi, lecturer of the institute.
A chorus was performed by the students of the institute at the inaugural ceremony of the event. Dr. Karabi Devi, H.O.D., Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics, Golaghat Commerce College, was invited as the resource person for the day and an informative lecture on the journey of Srinivasa Ramanujan and the importance of Mathematics as a subject was delivered by her. In connection with the observation, a mathematical model exhibition was organised and several students from all the three branches of the institute participated in the same.
Different models on Respiratory system, recliner bed, waste water treatment plant, atomic structure of calcium, mini inverter etc were exhibited by the students of Bio-medical, Civil and Mechanical Engineering on the occasion. Around 70 other students from various nearby schools like ' Furkating Balika Vidyalaya', 'Furkating Boys' High school', and 'Baliyan High school' along with their respective teachers also graced the occasion with their active participation.
The beautifully created out of bamboo ' Pie gate' was the centre of attraction of the entire celebration. An open Mathematical Quiz among the students was also organised and the new edition of the daily wall- magazine 'Tech-pulse' was inaugurated in honour of the celebrated mathematician towards the end of the day.
