SIVASAGAR: Along with rest of the country, National Press Day 2022 was also celebrated in Sivasagar under the initiative of Sibsagar Press Club, District Journalist Association, e-Media Association, Bartajeevi Sangha and in collaboration with Sivasagar District Administration as well as District Information and Public Relations Department, at Sivasagar Yuvadal on Wednesday.
The National Press Day programme was attended by Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav, Superintendent of Police Subhrajyoti Bora, Vice-Chancellor of Sati Sadhani State University, Dr Jyotiprasad Saikia, and others. Dr Jyotiprasad Saikia, who spoke on the topic 'Role of Media in Nation Building' in the National Press Day programme, delivered a theoretical lecture.
On the occasion of National Press Day, 111 journalists from different parts of Sivasagar district were felicitated with gamosas and certificates. Apart from eminent personalities from the Sivasagar district, students from schools and representatives of various organizations participated in the day-long programme organized on the occasion of National Press Day.
TEZPUR: Along with the rest of the country, National Press Day was observed by Sonitpur district administration and DIPRO, Sonitpur at a brief function held at Circuit House, Tezpur today.
Senior journalist Prashanta Jyoti Baruah was present as the keynote speaker on the occasion, who spoke on the theme for this year's National Press Day 'Role of Media in Nation Building'. At the very outset, he remembered the journalists who had lost their lives in the line of duty and called upon all present to work with a sense of social responsibility. Talking in brief about the long history of journalism in Assam, he spoke about the healthy journalism culture in Assam and the strong role newspapers have played in highlighting the issues faced by the common people. He also spoke on the important role played by newspapers of Assam during the freedom struggle against the British. Baruah spoke on the scope of working for the welfare and development of the nation by way of positive criticism by pointing out various flaws and errors in policy implementation at the grassroots level and bringing it to the notice of the policy makers so that the same can be addressed for the greater welfare of the society.
Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra in his inaugural speech spoke on how the media can help influence public opinion on various matters, help in transfer of knowledge and skills and also help address various evils prevalent in the society by educating the people, thus contributing to the growth of the nation and society in many ways.
