JORHAT: The Jorhat district administration observed National Press Day on Tuesday at the conference hall of Jorhat circuit house. Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman chaired the meeting and District Information and Public Relation officer Saradi Gogoi anchored the meeting where hundreds of journalists participated from different parts of the district. The district administration felicitated senior journalists Niranjan Mahanta, Diganta Buragohain, Lalit Bora, Jogesh Ojha, Shankab Kausik Baruah, Nava Jyoti Baruah, Devajit Baruah and Ramen Saikia. Additional Deputy Commissioner Damudar Barman was present on the occasion.

Morigaon: The Morigaon district administration supported by Morigaon District Journalist Association on Tuesday celebrated the National Press Day at Pabitora Hut. Journalists of different newspapers and TV channels in presence of the distinguished guests participated in the programme. The district administration organized a discussion. It was formally inaugurated by the CEO of ZP Khitish Ch. Pegu. Two senior journalists were felicitated by the district administration.

SARUPATHAR: Press and Media are considered one of the significant pillars of the country. These are the sectors in an economy that can affect the growth and operations of a country significantly. While the National Press Day is observed every year on November 16 to honour and mark the establishment of the Press Council of India (PCI) in the year 1966. The day marks the presence of an independent and responsible press in India.

National Press Day 2021 was observed across India including Dhansiri Subdivision on the premises of the SDO office in Sarupathar under the Golaghat district on Tuesday. Pranjil Gogoi, Assistant Commissioner of Dhansiri Subdivision civil administration felicitated the mediapersons with a phuulam gamusa and appreciated the hard work of the mediapersons.

SIVASAGAR: Sivasagar district administration, in collaboration with the District Information and Public Relations Office, Sibsagar Press Club and Sivasagar e-Media Association observed the National Press Day at Sibsagar Girls' College on Tuesday. Noted litterateur Prema Gogoi inaugurated the National Press Day, which was held under the chairmanship of Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Megha Nidhi Dahal. Gracing the occasion as a guest speaker, Dr Utpall Dutta delivered a speech on - 'Who is not afraid of the media?' The programme began with lighting of the lamp by Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner., while Ananta Smith, Secretary of Sivasagar e-Media Association delivered the welcome speech. Principal of Sibsagar Girls' College Dr Budhin Mishra attended the programme as distinguished guest.

TINSUKIA: National Press Day was organized on Tuesday by the Tinsukia District Journalists' Association (TDJA) in collaboration with the Digboi Press Club and Margherita Sub-Divisional Administration at Digboi Press Club, Digboi. Palash Rajkumar Ahom ADC i/c, Margherita was the guest of honour and Anuj Kalita, president of TDJA presided over the event. The event started with lighting of the ceremonial lamp and hoisting of flags of TDJA and Digboi Press Club by Anuj Kalika, president TDJA and Raju Hazarika president Digboi Press Club respectively. Himen Bhattacharjee and Amulya Khatoniar both senior journalists deliberated on the main theme 'Who is not afraid of media?' while ADC i/c stressed on responsive journalism. Journalists from 7 affiliated press clubs of the district were felicitated in the event for their contribution to media. Cultural programs such as Borgeet and Sattriya dance was also presented.

The Tinsukia district administration also observed the day at DC's conference hall with Tinsukia Sadar and Doomdooma journalists in presence of senior officials of the administration and DIPRO. Narsing Pawar DC of Tinsukia chaired the meeting while resource persons Dr Achyut Borthakur and Prof Uttam Duarah delivered their speeches as resource persons which was followed by an interactive session.

Tezpur: The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Tezpur University in collaboration with the Sonitpur District Administration and DIPRO, Sonitpur on Tuesday observed National Press Day with the theme 'Who is afraid of the media?'. The day-long event followed a series of lectures on the freedom of the press, panel discussion, skit by Tezpur University students, and screening of documentaries. On the occasion of the press day, a special edition newsletter 'Fine Print' was released by the department.

In the afternoon, the event followed a workshop on fact-checking for the future, conducted by Sushanta Talukdar, a veteran journalist for the department students and journalists of Sonitpur district. The event was held with first-year students joining through an online video-conferencing website. Addressing the gathering, Prof. VK. Jain, Vice-Chancellor, Tezpur University said, "For a country like ours, fact-checking is an important aspect and it is important for all to learn the tool of fact-checking. It is important to keep a watch on things around us and verify the information if it is authentic or not."
