DOOMDOOMA: Under the aegis of Assam Science Society (ASS), Rupaisiding Branch and IQAC, Doomdooma College, National Science Day (NSD) was observed at Doomdooma College on Tuesday. The programme began with lighting of lamp in front of the portrait of Sir C V Raman by Arjun Baruah, president, Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha. Ramesh Goswami, president, governing body of the college, welcomed the guests.

Dr Rinjumoni Sarma, Vice-Principal of the college and president, ASS, Rupaisiding Branch, delivered the inaugural speech. Dr Sarafraj Haque, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tinsukia, spoke on the significance of the day with power point presentation while Dhiren Deka, Tinsukia District Co-ordinator, ASS, briefly highlighted some of the important aspect of Sir CV Raman's life and achievements. The winners of the science model competition were given away the prizes by chief speaker Dr Sarafy Haque and Dhiren Deka. The day was observed by Tinsukia District Aryabhatta Science Centre at Mechaki High School, Saikhowa. The day's programme included a quiz competition and felicitation of President's Award winning innovator Suren Baruah and orchid specialist Khyananit Gogoi.

Sadiya College also observed the day, which was graced by Forest Man Jadav Payeng as chief guest. Dr Kalyan Bhuyan, Professor, Physics Department, Dibrugarh University, spoke on this year's theme of the NSD – 'Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future'.
