TEZPUR: The National Service Scheme (NSS) wing, Tezpur University organized ‘Yuva Samvad @2047’, an interactive platform for the youth to address a number of issues of national interest at the Council hall of the University. The theme of event was ‘Role of Youth in Development of Northeast India’. Pallab Lochan Das, Member of Parliament, Tezpur constituency, and Sunil Deodhar, founder of My Home India, which works for the interests of the people of Northeast were the speakers of the event. Speaking on the occasion, Deodhar said that decades ago people had a misconception regarding the north-eastern region and due to this, people from NE region faced lot of difficulties. He added that secessionist movements further alienated the north-eastern region from the rest of India during those decades, but the scenario has changed now. He urged youths of the north-eastern region to focus on entrepreneurial activities to address local problems. “Youths of Assam are not less talented than those of others part of India, but they need to think beyond government jobs,” Deodhar said. Addressing the gathering, Pallab Lochan Das urged youth to focus on nation building by understanding social responsibility. He further said that students need to take leadership roles to become role models. He advised the students to visit tea gardens and rural areas to understand the real issues of the society.
Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor, Tezpur University, while addressing the young audience, pointed out that youth is the driver of development and India’s progress is directly linked to youth. “Whenever change occurs in society, one will find youth playing a key role,” Prof. Singh said.
During the event, three students from Tezpur University expressed their ideas on the theme. Apart from members of Tezpur University community, people from neighbouring areas were also present during the event.
