SIVASAGAR: The Department of Political Science, Gargaon College in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell organized a special programme to mark the National Voters' Day on January 25.

The purpose behind organizing the programme was to raise awareness about the importance of voting rights and to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India.

Noted academician and Principal of Gargaon College, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, appreciated the effort of the organizers for organizing such an awareness programme to encourage the youth to participate in the electoral process and to make them aware about voting rights.

Dr Pobon Kumar Gogoi, Head of the department of Political Science, presided over the programme. In his deliberation, Dr Gogoi spoke on the importance of the voting process for making the Indian democracy successful. He said that the importance of voting rights cannot be undermined and people must exercise this right responsibly.

Another speaker of the event, Yuvaraj Gogoi, Assistant Professor of Political Science, pointed out the inherent meaning of the theme of this year's National Voters' Day, which stated 'Nothing like voting, I vote for Sure'. He also highlighted the efforts of the Election Commission of India to make the voting process inclusive and accessible to all eligible voters.

The programme was attended by around 150 students, including faculty members from different departments of the college.
