National Youth Day & 157th birthday of Swami Vivekananda celebrated in Udalguri

KALAIGAON: Along with the rest of the country, the National Youth Day and the 157th birthday of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated here at the Ramkrishna Sewashram in collaboration with the Nehru Yuva Kendra, Udalguri on Sunday with a day-long programme.

The programme began with nagar parikrama along with the statue of Swami Vivekananda across Udalguri town followed by floral tribute to Swami Vivekananda by Jadevendra Roy, president of Udalguri Ramkrishna Sewashram. The Sewashram also organized a drawing competition on the ideology of Swamiji among school children. A speech competition with a theme ‘Relevance of Swami Vivekananda in the present day world’ was also held in which Pritam Dey of Darrang College; Purushottam Saha of Cotton University bagged first and second prizes respectively while Kaustuv Das and Subham Sarkar of Ramswaroop Agarwalla Memorial English School of Udalguri jointly bagged third prizes.

The open session was presided over by Jadavendra Roy, president of Ramkrishna Sewashram, and it was addressed by Shekhar Dev, district coordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Udalguri, and R Sapkota, senior scribe of Udalguri district, as chief guest and appointed speaker respectively. In their speeches, both the speakers spoke on the ideology of Swami Vivekananda and appealed to the youth to follow his teachings to make India a strong nation. The programme concluded with ‘Nara-Narayan Sewa’ in which more than 20 poor villagers were donated warm winter clothes.
