TINSUKIA: A commemorative programme on the occasion of the first death anniversary of GL Agarwalla was held at Banashree Camp of Dibru-Saikhowa National Park at Guijan under the joint aegis of Tinsukia division of GL Agarwalla Social Group, Dibru-Saikhowa Conservation Society and Guijan branch of Parivesh Suraksha Samity on Sunday with shradhanjali and day-long nature camp. More than 55 school children from different schools along with their teachers participated in various green activities.
The programme began with floral tribute and lighting of ceremonial lamp by Dr Rishi Das, an environmental activist and president of Tinsukia District Journalists' Association, followed by a brief introduction of GL Agarwalla by reporter Chinmoy Sarma. He said that GL Agarwalla was not only a journalist but also a philanthropist, litterateur and social activist.
The nature camp was initiated by Jainal Abedin (Benu) with campus activities followed by a short film show. The children also participated in green games moderated by Dr Rishi Das. In the post-lunch session, ADC Shymal Khetra Gogoi planted a tree sapling followed by certificate distribution ceremony. Gogoi, while appreciating the endeavours of the organizers, requested them to organize more camps to motivate children towards environmental conservation.
