GAURISAGAR: In a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19, the administration of Nazira in Sivasagar district, under the supervision of SDO (C) Lakhimi Dutta and health workers of COVID Centres, started a joint initiative on Saturday at Mezenga sub-centre.

The objective of this drive is to distribute leaflets containing COVID guidelines in order to make people residing in the remote areas of Mezenga aware about COVID-19. As most of the people living in the remote areas do not know about the COVID protocol laid down by the government, hence the drive was undertaken to encourage the people to wear masks, sanitize their hands, to maintain social distancing and to undergo tests.

Nodal Health Officer Dr Pradyut Konwar and COVID Supervisor Faijur Rahman constituted a committee that included ANM, Asha workers, VDP and gaon burhas. Several groups have been constituted under the committee and these groups will regularly visit the villages of Mezenga to make the local people aware about the pandemic.

Election Officer Sujata Gogoi, Information and Public Relation Officer Barnali Dutta and COVID Supervisor Faijur Rahman accompanied the team and went door-to-door to make the local people aware. COVID Supervisor Faijur Rahman said, "Being the frontline workers it is our duty to make the people of the remote areas aware. There are six COVID centres at Nazira subdivision and I request everyone to undergo COVID tests if they feel unwell."

Information and Public Relation Officer Barnali Dutta said, "Our main objective is to trace, test and isolate. If the number of tests is increased, the number of COVID infected patients will increase and accordingly we will be able to isolate them. Isolation is necessary to not just save the life of the COVID patient but also to save his/her family members."

Addressing the local people, Sujata Gogoi said, "Everyone should follow the COVID guidelines laid down by the government. Wear a mask whenever you are out and if not necessary then do not step out of your house. Maintain cleanliness to keep yourself away from the deadly virus."
