Haflong: Opposing the NF Railway’s proposal for re-assessment, the NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum (NCHISF) submitted a memorandum regarding BG Line construction-affected compensation to the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao, Amitabh Rajkhowa on Friday.

The memorandum, signed by president David Keivom and general secretary Paoneilun Changsan on behalf of the BG Line construction-affected families, once again requested his support in solving the issue.

The NF Railway authority intended to form a committee for survey and re-assessment of the BG Line affected areas. But NCHISF totally opposed the NF Railway authority’s proposal for re-assessment as they felt that it was another delaying tactic. They had no objection for spot survey/ enquiry of the damages as survey and assessment had been jointly done several times with the district administration, Revenue Department, the Railway authority and the NCHISF representatives way back in 2015.

Accordingly, the estimate of zeerat (Rs 1.78 crore) and Land Development Cost (Rs 6.46 crore) was submitted way back in 2016 and the Railway paid the zeerat value in 2017. Also, even the Deputy Commissioner had written a letter to the General Manager, Construction, NF Railway on February 28, 2018, informing him that the land development charges were examined and found genuine. (Ref.M/No.DH/CON/L&O/2018/1546-1548).

The NCHISF urged the Deputy Commissioner to kindly take necessary action to release the necessary compensation as promised by the NF Railway Authority within 30 days.
