Haflong: Requesting for strict action against NHAI, the NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum (NCHISF), on behalf of the common people of the district, submitted a memorandum to the Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner on Monday. The memorandum stated that the NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum, on behalf of the common people of the district, had been demanding for maintenance of National Highway 154 E (Package No. AS-21 Jatinga-Harangajao & AS-22 Maibang-Jatinga) for many years. Every year during the monsoon season, due to the deplorable condition of the road, the students, patients and public have to face a lot of problem while travelling. The NCHISF on February 5, 2019 approached the Chief General Manager (Tech) NHAI at the Regional Office in Guwahati and had submitted a memorandum, requesting him for immediate maintenance of the NH154E. The NHAI Authority gave assurance that they would complete the maintenance work before the monsoon season arrived but till today the NHAI has not taken any initiative even after making continuous requests explaining the need for urgent maintenance, stated the memorandum.
The NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum will be compelled to agitate if the NHAI failed to fulfill their assurance - maintenance of NH 154E, stated the memorandum. The DC assured to call a joint meeting with NHAI on April 13 to discuss regarding NH-154E. He also said that he would ask the CGM to be present.
