HAFLONG: The Chief Executive Member of NC Hills Autonomous Council, Debolal Gorlosa inaugurated the Ethnic Carnival 2022 at Jatinga ethnic village located on the Haflong-Silchar road in presence of NCHAC chairperson Ranu Langthasa, Executive Members L Darnei, Bijit Langthasa, Prajith Hojai, and other dignitaries on Saturday.

The event was organized by newly-formed Ethnic Carnival Committee with the aim to showcase the rich cultural entity, folklore and local foods of Dima Hasao which is always considered to be mini north east with as many as thirteen ethnic communities and six non-tribal communities living in this tiny but beautiful district of Assam. Several troupes of each community living in Dima Hasao performed their traditional dances during the event in front of the guests and officials.

During the carnival, ethnic food of each community was prepared and displayed for the guests. CEM Gorlosa in his address encouraged the traditional dance troupe in promoting tourism through showcasing their rich cultural verities.

Gorlosa, talking to media, explained how his council team had been committed for promotion of tourism in Dima Hasao since the district was blessed with natural beauty and bounty. He said that to generate employment, the tourism industry could play a pivotal role and the Dima Hasao district had every possibility to become a much-sought tourist destination for all.

"Ethnic cuisine is a delicacy. Everybody loves ethnic cuisine more or less. Come and enjoy the ethnic delicacies of our district at the ethnic village near Jatinga as we have launched the Ethnic Food Fest called Ethnic Carnival to promote local food and culture. With food comes culture also. It is going to be a great opportunity for enthusiasts to explore the food and culture and beauty of Dima Hasao. Everybody is most welcome. The stalls will remain open on Saturday and Sunday," CEM Gorlosa added.
