HAFLONG: NCHAC CEM Debolal Gorlosa along with his wife Kanika Gorlosa, NCHAC chairperson Ranu Langthasa, Executive Members Nojit Kemprai, Projith Hojai along with the officers of the council on Monday observed the World Tourism Day in a unique way living upto the theme of this year "Tourism for Inclusive Growth" by trekking the second highest peak in the Barail Range, Selkal Mol near Tumjang village situated at an altitude of 1500 above sea level.
In his speech, CEM Gorlosa said, "It is very encouraging to see so many tourists visiting this beautiful landscape, however it is important to maintain a clean and plastic free tourist spot."
He said that the village will be benefited under the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme, the pipeline water facility in the village. Further he announced that the council will support the villagers for homestay facilities in order to promote eco tourism and facilitate the visitors, stated a press release.
This trekking range has been a recent hotspot for many visitors, tourists coming in from various corner from within as well as outside the State. With the initiative of the CEM, the Tourism department lead by Nirmendu Kemprai successfully organised the programme with the support of the local villagers of the area. The villagers of the locality has recently been witnessing many tourism opportunities promoting eco tourism. The place is famous for its unique varieties of fruits grown in the area, especially sweet plum fruit and the natural resources. Established in 1833 Thumjang is one of the oldest village in Dima Hasao with no proper roads or other amenities.
