GUWAHATI: NDRF in collaboration with GMCH Guwahati participated in an awareness campaign of World Hepatitis Day at Guwahati on Sunday. On the eve of World Hepatitis Day, NDRF rescuers participated in the awareness programme “Run For Liver” from GMCH Guwahati Assam to Nehru Stadium in Guwahati. World Hepatitis Day is observed to raise awareness about the disease which causes inflammation of the liver and claims around 1.4 million lives every year. The aim of the campaign is to involve people in raising awareness about various types of Hepatitis and their mode of transmission, educate people about prevention, diagnosis, and control of Hepatitis & spread awareness about Hepatitis A and B vaccines.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), after tuberculosis, the second major killer infectious disease is Hepatitis. The motive of the campaign is to achieve global elimination of the disease by 2030. The idea is to spread awareness about the fact that “Hepatitis is preventable and treatable. Hepatitis C is, in fact, curable. However, over 80 percent of people living with Hepatitis still lack prevention, testing, and treatment services, stated a press release.
