Nedan Foundation Celebrates Children's Day Enthusiastically

Kokrajhar: Nedan Foundation, a Kokrajhar-based NGO working for children who need immediate care and support in Kokrajhar district organized the Children Day today. To strengthen the networks among children and adolescents NEDAN Foundation in collaboration with Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and DLSA, Kokrajhar, BTC organized one day cultural and sports event in commemoration of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday on Thursday which is also known as Children’s Day or Baal Diwas held at Jharbari High School field in Kokrajhar.

The programme was attended by Malati Rani Narzary, CWC Chairperson Kokrajhar as the chief guest; Pradeep Kr. Bargayary, Head Master of Jharbari High School, Parsuram Basumatary, vice president, Jaharbari Anchalik ABSU and Geolang Mushahary, VCDC Chairman, Jaharbari were the guests of honour. In the programme, CWC members, DLSA, Kokrajhar team, DCPU, Kokrajhar team and around 350 children participated in the programme which started with an inaugural speech by Digambar Narzary, Chairperson, NEDAN Foundation; he wished Children’s Day to all the children and shared the objective of the programme.

Chief guest of the programme Malati Rani Narzary, in her speech, told the children present in brief told why November 14 is celebrated as Children’s Day across the nation. With the early life history of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru he encouraged the children present in the programme to follow his early life and accept him as the idol. As today’s children are the future of the nation, he encouraged them to hone their skills from their early lives.

She also spoke about child labour, child marriage and different kinds of exploitations against children. And she also thanked the foundation for taking such an initiative to bring youth together by conducting sports activities and cultural events on this auspicious day. The guest of honour Geolang Mushahary, VCDC Chairman, Jaharbari encouraged the children by telling a short story.

Pradeep Kr. Bargayary, Head Master of Jharbari High School, Parsuram Basumatary, vice president Jaharbari Anchalik ABSU also encouraged children to participate in every competition for their own learning and development.

The programme also had colorful games, sports and cultural activities for the children. A football match was organized between Jaharbari High School and the junior team of Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA); Jaharbari High School won the match in penalty shootout.

As per the guidelines from the CHILDLINE India Foundation, Kokrajhar CHILDLINE conducted the ‘CHILDLINE se Dosti’ campaign in the programme.
