Kokrajhar: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Executive Member (EM) Arup Kumar Dey who is in-charge of health paid a sudden visit to the Rupnath Brahma (RNB) Civil Hospital, Kokrahar on Tuesday.

Notably, RNB Civil Hospital is the only premier healthcare centre of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Dey expressed deep dissatisfaction about the condition of the hospital. Speaking to media during his sudden visit to the hospital he said that crores of rupees was sanctioned, beds were to be procured but despite that nothing has been done. Hospital beds are in a bad condition, walls and ceilings are leaking.

During his surprise visit, Dey found that several doctors who were supposed to be on duty were missing in action. The Executive Member made it very clear that strict action as per service rules will be taken against all those doctors, nurses or other hospital staff found neglecting their duty or if found attending nursing homes or private hospitals or doing private practice during hospital hours.

Dey also said that the Council would suspend such doctors and nurses if need be.

Dey further said,"I would be laying the foundation stone for a new hospital building in the next one-two months as the existing building is in very bad condition and cannot function as a hospital building for long."The Executive Member also said that he and the Council would request Assam Finance, Health, and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to look into the issue of Rs 200 crore liability since 2005.

Earlier BTC chief Promod Boro has also made his suddent visit to the Rupnath Brahma civil hospital to inspect medical service and infrastructure of the hospital.He also made his surprise visit to the office of the Executive Engineer, Public Work Department (PWD) in Kokrajhar.
