TANGLA: Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Delhi NCR chapter, and Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabha of Assam (ITSSA) jointly organized an interactive seminar on the Implemenation of Indigenous Tribal Languages in Schools of Assam as per provision of NEP 2020 on July 23. The Delhi NCR Bodo Sahitya Sabha in collaboration with Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabha of Assam (ITSSA) held an interactive seminar on ‘Indigenous Tribal Languages of Assam: Initiatives and Way Forward to Implement as Medium of Instruction in Schools in line with the National Education Policy 2020’ at Bodoland Bhawan of Delhi.
The event began with welcome address by president of the Delhi NCR Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Prof. Nirala Ramchiary. The governing body members of ITSSA along with former and current representatives of Boro, Deori, Dimasa, Garo, Karbi, Mising, Rabha and Tiwa Sahitya Sabhas spoke on specific topics related to their respective languages and discussed about the importance of implementation as medium of instruction in schools to preserve, promote and empower these Tribal languages. The meet exhorted the Assam government and Central government for implementation of these languages in various classes of school as medium of instruction under the provision of NEP-2020 up to 12th class – Bodo and Garo, up to 8th class – Karbi, up to 5th class – Deori, Dimasa, Mising, Rabha and Tiwa languages. Apart from the members of ITSSA, member of Delhi NCR Bodo Sahitya Sabha and Assistant Professor at Christ university, Ghaziabad,Dr. Pompi Basumatary also spoke on the topic ‘Keeping Bodo Language Alive Through Written Culture’. Professor Ajith Kanna from Jawaharlal Nehru University spoke on the topic “Authocthony and Quality of Belongings” with special reference to the empowerment and protection of tribal languages and cultures in India and Abroad.
