LAKHIMPUR: Dr. Kiran Hazarika, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, on Monday delivered the 6th Golden Jubilee Lecture of Lakhimpur Commerce College. Organized by the golden jubilee organizing committee, the lecture was delivered at a function chaired by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, the Principal of the college.

The IGNOU Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Kiran Hazarika delivered his lecture on “Transformation in Higher Education in the light of National Education Policy-2020”. He said that Indian education system had been undermining the tradition and culture of the country since its inception in 1839 by Macaulay. Dr. Hazarika narrated how Indian civilization developed the present day scientific developments like television, avionics, civil engineering, mathematics, astronomy since the days of the Ramayana and Mahabharata and how these had been neglected by the earlier education systems because of the European colonial occupation and their destruction by the invasions by other foreign powers like the Turks and Mongols.

Explaining that the NEP-2020 would incorporate a value based and holistic education based on the ancient Indian tradition and culture by quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi that a new Indian mindset would emerge in the next 25 years when a class I student would come out through the NEP-2020.

Dr. Kiran Hazarika also blamed the British colonial administrators for forcing German Indologist Max Mueller not to allude his researches on ancient India in his books and how they confiscated the first ever prototype of airplane by an Indian Shivkar Talpade who first flew a flying machine over Chowpatty in 1895. The 6th round of the Golden Jubilee Lecture series of Lakhimpur Commerce College was attended by teachers and office staff of the college with students.
