UDALGURI: Nepali Bhasa Divas was observed in Udalguri with a day's programme on Thursday.

The flag was hoisted by Bishnu Sarma Newpane at the Aditya Akademy premise in Udalguri. The lamp was lit by Bidyapati Dahal. The meeting was presided over by Kalpana Katuwal Chhetry, the president of Udalguri primary committee. Puspadhar Bastola, the Principal of Udalguri Higher Secondary School, inaugurated the meeting. He elaborated about the history of the Nepali language movement.

Tarapati Upadhyaya spoke about the Nepali language recognition movement. Journalist Baidyanath Upadhyaya spoke about people's role in the development of language. On the occasion, the books Diyo Kalash by Bishnu Sarmah Newpane and Bhanubhakta Mahakavyam by Bidyapati Dahal were released.

The Udalguri district committee of Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha also observed Nepali Bhasa Divas at Dhansirighat. The programme was presided over by Gayatri Bhattarai and conducted by Ram Upadhyaya. Rudra Baral, the general secretary of Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha, was the chief guest. On that occasion, the prizes of the Haribhakta Katuwal online poem competition were given away and the Arhiman memorial student award was conferred to the students secured highest marks in Nepali subject in the HSLC and HS exams. A book titled Barna Pyramid by Rewati Mohan Timsina was also released.
