Silchar: Institutions and organizations across the valley of Barak joined together to celebrate the birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose with great enthusiasm. The Central Netaji Birth Day Celebration Committee of this town made elaborate arrangements to observe the historic occasion through day-long programs. Glowing tributes were paid to him, recalling his sacrifice for the liberation of this country from the colonial rule. The valour and chivalry of Azad Hind Fouj which valiantly fought against the British on Kohima and Imphal and hoisting of Indian National Army flag at Moirang in Manipur were recaptured.

Dr. Manujendra Syam, a noted Rabindra-culturist, went down memory lane to recall the visit of Netaji twice to this town with the objective of galvanizing the Azad Hind Fouj and its volunteers and also to reactivate Rani Jhansi Brigade. It was a strategy to reinforce the INA fighting on the frontier along Burma against the British. Dr. Syam at the same time felt proud to say how Netaji forged alliance with Japanese forces to neutralize the enemy. No exaggeration that the path for the freedom of the country became easy.

Along with NGOs, the district administration of Cachar organized the elaborate programme at the office of the Deputy Commissioner and also at the Rangirkhari statue of Netaji to pay tributes to the great revolutionary and freedom fighter.

Barnali Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, described the indomitable spirit of Netaji and the formation of INA to drive away from the colonial rulers. His clarion call to the countrymen 'give me blood, I will give you freedom' went deep into their hearts and ignited their flame for the fiercest fight and liberate the motherland. It was no more a dream, but a reality.

Barnali Sharma called upon all to work with the spirit of self-renunciation and imbibe in himself the ideals and principles of Netaji to make the country a better place to live in. Niharendra Narayan Thakur, Chairman, Silchar Municipal Board, described some adventurous moments from the life of the revolution which he said were unprecedented and unparalleled.

Among others who spoke on the occasion included Rajiv Roy, ADC, A R Mazumder, Sumit Sattawan, Assistant Commissioner, Abhilash Barnawal and D Pathak.
