GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that a new airport would be built in the Dolu tea garden area near Silchar, and the government would submit a proposal to the Centre in the next two to three weeks.
The state government is committed to the fast-paced development of Barak Valley and has made many initiatives to advance education, health, and communication in the region says, CM Sarma.
The new airport will be constructed on 870 acres of property bought from a tea farm, the interests of the tea garden laborers will be protected, and they will not be losers in any way while the new airport is being built," Sarma added.
Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a 50-seat resident doctors' hostel and a catheterization laboratory, known as a cath lab, at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The cath lab of the Department of Cardiology was erected at a cost of 5.39 crore, while the resident doctors' hostel was built at a cost of 7.05 crore.
Sarma, speaking at the event, stated that these two institutions will make medical services in the Barak Valley more accessible, inexpensive, and advanced. Patients with heart difficulties will now be able to receive state-of-the-art treatment without having to go to distant locations.
While speaking at a program commemorating the university's 29th foundation day in Silchar, Sarma said the State government will provide 25 crores to Assam University for setting up an innovation laboratory, starting start-up ventures, and other initiatives to catapult the socio-economic development
