MANGALDAI: In the recently organized general meeting of Asom Satra Mahasabha Delhi (ASMD), the Delhi chapter of Asom Satra Mahasabha, a new committee was formed with Air Commodore (retired) Jugal Bhuyan as the president, Major General Ananta Bhuyan as the vice-president, Abhijeet Mahanta as the secretary and Angshuman Baruah as the treasurer.
Talking to The Sentinel over phone, newly-nominated vice-president of ASMD Major General Ananta Bhuyan, currently serving as the Additional Director General of Rashtriya Rifles in Delhi, said that Asom Satra Mahasabha Delhi (ASMD) –the Delhi chapter of Asom Satra Mahasabha - was established in 2014 and since its inception, ASMD has been organizing several cultural events in the National Capital Region (NCR) to spread awareness about Xattriya culture and the rich classical heritage of Assam at the national level.
“ASMD organizes annual naam (Xattriya form of Vaishnavite prayers) during the month of April, offers naam service to the individual households or groups of Assamese people living in NCR (during the month of Bhado, mid-August to mid-September) and celebrates Annual Xattriya Sanskriti Divas,” he added.
The ASMD has also taken up publication of books related to Vaishnavite teachings of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva and Mahapurush Madhavdeva for better appreciation of their teachings by the Assamese as well as non-Assamese population of other parts of the nation. To serve this purpose, ASMD has made several publications in Hindi and English.
