BONGAIGAON: Following a tip-off, New Bongaigaon Government Railway Police busted an oil robbers' gang on Friday night with the recovery of huge amount of stolen oil. Talking to press, Sanjib Choudhury, IC, New Bongaigaon GRP said that they had an information regarding stealing of oil from tank wagon of oil-carrying train that departed from Bongaigaon Refinery.

"We had information that one Eair Ali (34) son of Abdul Aziz, a resident of Langla village under Kalgachiya Police station of Barpeta district is conducting this robbery. He is storing it in a godown at Langla Bazaar and selling it to local markets. New Bongaigaon GRP along with 4th APTF personnel conducted a search operation at Langla Bazaar and recovered 19 iron drums containing oil of approximately 4,000 litres. 17 empty iron drums were also recovered there. The accused Eair Ali was also apprehended. A case has been registered at Bongaigaon GRP in this regard," he said.
