LAKHIIMPUR: "Sati Sadhani should not be confined within the boundary of the Chutia community only. Her bravery and the ideology of self-sacrifice for the motherland should be adhered by all. The new generation should know about the valorous story of Sati Sadhani along with her ideology of supreme sacrifice imbued with patriotism," said Ismail Hussain, researcher and eminent literary figure of the State in Lakhimpur on Sunday. He made this statement while taking part as the chief guest in the open session of the Veerangana Sati Sadhani Smriti Divas, organized under the auspices of Lakhimpur District Chutia Jati Sanmilan, in association with Chutia Jati Mahila Sanmilan, Chutia Jati Yuva Sanmilan and Chutia Jati Students' Union.
The native organizations of the Chutia community centrally observed the event with a two-day long programme on Saturday and Sunday at Sadhani Bhavan, located at Japisajia in the district. On Saturday, the programme began with the unfurling of flag by Lakhimpur unit Chutia Jati Sanmilan president Brojen Saikia. It was followed by smriti tarpan, the traditional Deu-Kuber puja of the community and various events on literary and sports competition.
On Sunday, the agenda began with a colourful cultural procession wherein various ethnic communities of the State took part, displaying the diversity of the Assamese culture with one soul. It was followed by the souvenir release event which was conducted by Dayananda Saikia, the manager of the State Bank of India, North Lakhimpur Branch.
