‘New generation should take interest in photography’-Tinsukia SP Siladitya Chetia

DOOMDOOMA: “The value of a photo is priceless. A particular photograph can be a source of inspiration for a person. In this digital age, photograph has become a medium of expression as well as of speedy communication. So the new generation should take interest in photography for their immense mental satisfaction. Besides journalist bodies, the other organizations too should take steps to attract the young boys and girls towards photography.” This was stated by Superintendent of Police (SP), Tinsukia, Siladitya Chetia while addressing the prize distribution meeting organized on the occasion of World Photography Day at Tinsukia Press Club on Monday as chief guest.

The two-day long World Photography Day programme was organized by Tinsukia District Journalists Association (TDJA) on August 18 and August 19 with active cooperation of Tinsukia Press Club (TPC) and Canon India Ltd. The programme got underway on Sunday with a workshop where renowned photographer Aswini Barkataki attended as resource person. About 100 participants took part in the workshop while Dinesh Agarwal, Marketing Manager and Kartik Paul, Sales Officer of Canon India Limited, Guwahati office, were also present.

On the second day, a photo exhibition-cum-competition were organized where about 125 photos were displayed. Additional SP Asif Ahmed inaugurated the exhibition. The prize distribution meeting was held in the afternoon with Dr Rishi Das, president of TDJA, in the chair. The participants were given certificates while the winners of the photograph competition were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 5,000 (first prize), Rs. 3,000 (second prize), Rs.1,000 (third prize), Rs.500 (fourth and fifth prizes) respectively.

The prize winners of the photography competition are Partha Pratim Borgohain, Rajarshi Das, Madhuryya Bora, Ashim Talukdar and Abhijit Bose.
