New In-charge Principal Kiriti Bhushan Dey takes charge in Cachar College

SILCHAR: Professor Kiriti Bhushan Dey on Friday took the charge of the principal of Cachar College from his outgoing predecessor Dr. Siddharth Sankar Nath. On November 2, Director of Higher Education Dharmakanta Mili had suspended Dr. Nath following a series of unpleasant incidents including 10-day demonstration by the teachers and non-teaching staff of the college demanding the removal of the controversial principal. Teachers had earlier submitted a chargesheet to Mili against the Principal alleging that he used to misbehave with his own colleagues. List of allegations included financial irregularities to nepotism. DHE issued a show cause notice on September 29 to Dr Nath and he had reportedly submitted 68 pages of clarification. Finally Dr Nath was put under suspension on November 2.

Four senior professors, who were on the verge of retirement had declined the offer of taking the charge of the principal. Finally, name of Kiriti Bhushan Dey was unanimously selected by the governing body and the proposal was sent to DHE for his approval which reached the college on Thursday.
