LAKHIMPUR: Keeping in mind the forthcoming assembly election, the political scenario in Lakhimpur district has changed suddenly with a new political development initiated by Lakhimpur District Congress Committee (LDCC) and Lakhimpur district council of Communist Party of India (CPI).
Supporting and welcoming the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee's (APCC) move for forming a grand alliance in the State in order to root out the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power, both political parties in the district have joined hands to fight against the BJP in the ensuing election.
The declaration about the new political equation between the two parties was made public on Monday in a joint press conference convened at North Lakhimpur Press Club. Addressing the media persons, LDCC president Dr. Joy Prakash Das said that secular, like-minded parties of the State must form a grand alliance to give a befitting reply to the BJP in the State.
"We have welcomed the APCC's move for formulating a grand alliance in the State against BJP. The BJP has been governing not only the State but also the country with false promises. The ruling party has been adopting various anti-public policies. The party has hurt the very spirit of the Assamese community by adapting the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2020 and that of the farmers across the nation by adapting the three new farm bills. There are lots of examples of anti-public policies adapted by the ruling party. The party must be removed from power. So, respecting the APCC's move of formulating a grand alliance in the State, we, the Lakhimpur Congress and CPI, have come together to form an alliance in the grassroots level and resolve to defeat the BJP in the assembly election," the LDCC president declared. He further called upon Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and Raijor Dol (RD) and other like-minded parties to come forward to become part of the grand alliance for the sake of removing the BJP from power.
On the other hand, Lakhimpur district unit CPI general secretary Arup Kalita said that there was no alternative to prevent the BJP from coming to power in the State again. "Under BJP's rule, there have been threats to the Constitution of India and democracy. The very backbone of Indian economics has collapsed under the rule of the BJP. The BJP governments have been working in favour of the corporate sector only. So, we have formed the alliance with Congress to save the nation and the State," Arup Kalita said while addressing the press conference wherein Lakhimpur district unit CPI president along with several dignitaries of both parties were present.
In the same press conference, LDCC reiterated its demand for scrapping of the three new farm acts – Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
