New twist to mysterious death of SI Junmoni Rabha

NAGAON: The mysterious ‘death’ of SI Junmoni Rabha took a new twist on Thursday after an audio clip was circulated on social media as well as electronic media.

In the audio track, unidentified police personnel of Nagaon PS, while speaking to a media person here, claimed that it was a pre-planned murder rather than a mere accident. The police personnel also said that SI Junmoni Rabha was along with SI Abhajyoti Rabha, in-charge officer of Haibargaon Outpost, and was killed at a secret place of the town just before of the accident.

Besides, the same police personnel also said in the audio track that she was quizzed for long in the evening on the fatal day by SP, Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) and OC Sadar PS. He said that after sometime, the OC Nagaon PS went towards the Borghat bypass Chariali and also instructed all officers of the PS and Outposts of the district to close down the entry gates of the police stations and outposts just before of incident.

In the same audio clip, the police personnel also said that SI Junmoni Rabha was tortured and thrashed with an iron rod till she died by unknown persons at a secret place in the town. He said that senior officials from the district police led by SP Leena Doley and ASP (HQ) conducted a raid at the official quarter late night just before the incident during which police seized several lakhs of rupees from the quarter of SI Junmoni Rabha. Similarly, the on-duty doctor of Jakhalabandha hospital who conducted the preliminary examination of SI Junmoni Rabha at the hospital right after the accident, claimed while speaking to local media persons here that no marks of external injuries were seen on the body of SI Junmoni Rabha except bleeding through one of her ears.

Meanwhile, the CID team led by SP Dhruba Bora that is camping at Nagaon police guest house since Wednesday, interrogated SI Abhajyoti Rabha, in-charge officer of Haibargaon Outpost, Inspector Monuj Rajbangshi, OC, Nagaon PS and other five police personnel of Morikolong Outpost for long in connection with the case. Amidst the new developments in connection with the incident, SP Leena Doley transferred over 148 police constables posted in various police stations as well as other outposts and police patrolling units in the district on Thursday.

On the other hand, the district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad today on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through the DC, Nagaon and sought a judicial probe into the mysterious ‘death’ of SI Junmoni Rabha and also demanded adequate measures against all crimes to make Nagaon as a crime-free district in the days to come.
