New unit inaugurated at Digboi Refinery

DOOMDOOMA: A Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Reduction Unit of Digboi Refinery, constructed at a cost of Rs 9 crore, was inaugurated by the Director of Refineries, Sukla Mistry when she was on her maiden visit to the Refinery after taking over charge recently.

In compliance with the emission norms of the Environment Protection Act, it would be possible now in reducing the volatile organic compound in effluent water up to 90 per cent because of the addition of this Unit.

Digboi Refinery, the oldest oil refinery of the country set up by the Assam Oil Company Limited in 1901, was supplying hydrocarbon products all over the country for more than a century. It was taken over by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Limited in 1981. The Refinery is continuously upgrading its environmental protection system and process technology for bringing out greener products while maintaining its operation in perfect harmony with nature.

During her visit, Mistry had an interaction with the representatives of the officers' association, workers' union, young officers and women employees. She motivated them to achieve operational excellence by adopting safe and reliable methods. She also appreciated the Digboi Refinery team for uninterrupted operation and zero accident cases during the month of November.

Director Mistry also took stock of various development projects of the refinery, including its long-awaited capacity expansion project. During her whirlwind brief visit, she laid great emphasis on IOC's commitment towards the environment, safety and society at large.
