DIBRUGARH: A newborn baby was recovered near the DTP dyke in Dibrugarh on Saturday. The local people alleged that a newborn baby was thrown in a carton. It was found alive and taken to the AMCH, where the doctor declared it dead.

Locals alleged that the newborn baby was thrown by the staff of Apeksha Hospital. “We saw a boy wearing an Apeksha Hospital badge. He came with a carton and threw the carton in the garbage. It was found that the baby in the carton was alive. The newborn was breathing. We took the baby to AMCH, where the doctor declared it dead,” a local resident alleged.

“The newborn baby belonged to a resident of Duliajan. Twins were born but one of the babies died. That is why the parents told the Apeksha Hospital management to dispose of the dead baby,” said a source.

“The doctors didn’t check the newborn baby before disposing it of. If the newborn baby was alive, then doctors have made a mistake. Why did the management of the hospital dispose of the newborn baby in a garbage dump near the DTP dyke?” asked a source.

Talking to the correspondent, Apeksha Hospital Director Jaiprakash Beriwal said, “It is a false allegation against us. We are a reputed hospital and cannot do such a thing. Twin babies were born in our hospital, and one of them was born dead. We had handed over the dead baby to the parents, and they managed to get a sweeper into our hospital by giving him money and asking him to dispose of the dead baby. When the sweeper went to dispose of the dead baby in the Maijan area, he saw people over there and threw it in the garbage, and fled away.”
