TINSUKIA: An allegation of high handedness has been levelled against Chief Safety Officer of NF Railway, Monoj Kumar Agarwal which has created strong discontentment amongst railway employees, staff of Tinsukia Railway Division besides general public after clashes erupted between public and railway staff following closure of vital railway gates transacting number of roads for hours together during railway track inspection in Tinsukia Division on July 27-July 28. The NFR Mazdoor Union (NFRMU), while condemning the act of Agarwal, demanded the GM NFR to transfer the erring official immediately.
According to reports, during an annual inspection programme in the Furkating-Jorhat-Mariani route, Monoj Kumar Agarwal was proceeding from Furkating to Golaghat in four motor trollies to inspect level crossing, signal and other safety measures. The FM/3 no level crossing that lies on arterial Golaghat Furkating Road was kept closed for more than 45 minutes. As the traffic on either side got stranded, including an ambulance, the public got infuriated and attempted to assault the gateman. As the trollies carrying Agarwal reached, the irate mob raised slogans against him and soon started to chase him on the railway track. Though he escaped unhurt, humiliated Agarwal shockingly waylaid all the senior railway officials on the railway track who accompanied him in trollies. Such unwarranted behaviour on the part of the CSO was condemned by each and every officer in Tinsukia Division, according to sources.
“The job of the CSO is to mitigate problems as far as public issues are concerned. Instead, the CSO got involved in the confrontation with public. As per the new MV (Amendment) Bill, 2019, Agarwal deserves to pay penalty of Rs 10,000 with imprisonment of six months for blocking emergency vehicle like ambulance,” observed Puluk Gogoi, publicity secretary of NFRMU.
