TINSUKIA: Along with the rest of the world, the NFR Mazdoor Union (NFRMU) is making elaborate preparation to observe International Labour Day on May 1 in a befitting manner.

With the slogan Nutan Pension Niti Mukta Bharat, the NFRMU in a press release issued by its press secretary Pulak Gogoi stated that the new pension scheme that had been made effective from January 1, 2004, had created a disastrous future for railway employees. Though the NFRMU had been opposing the scheme vehemently and resorted to continuous agitation, the Central Government all along maintained an apathetic attitude towards railway employees.

Under the leadership of Piyush Chakraborty, the joint secretary NFRMU, all the divisions of NFR like Tinsukia, Lumding, Maligaon, Rangia, Bongaigaon, Katihar, New Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar will join in a protest march on May 1, the release added.
