LAKHIMPUR: NHPC has denied damage of any permanent components of Subansiri Lower HE Project due to the heavy downpour during the current days by issuing a press release in reference to various media reports published in newspapers and telecast on electronic media.

The press release, issued by Sanjeev Kumar Guleria, Dy General Manager (PR), said, “It has been published/telecast that due to excessive flood in Subansiri river, huge damages have been caused to the project components, leaving threat to downstream area of the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower HE Project. In this regard, it is clarified that no such loss or damage to any of the permanent components, viz. Dam, Power House etc. of Subansiri Lower Project have occurred due to this rain. All the permanent structures of Project are completely safe and there is nothing to panic”.

“It is also clarified that Subansiri Lower HE Project is not holding or releasing any additional quantity of water in the Subansiri River. The river water is flowing from the upstream of Dam structure through spillway to the downstream in its normal course as it usually flows during the rainy season. Further, permanent wall structure of Power House i.e. Tail Race Channel (TRC) has already been completed and there is no threat to Power House due to the increased discharge in river. Construction activities inside the Power House are going on as usual. NHPC Limited is constructing Subansiri Lower HE Project with full responsibility and ownership”, the press release added.
