JAMUGURIHAT: The National Human Rights and Crime Control Bureau (NHRCCB), Assam has recently raised significant concern over the withdrawal of Railway Reservation Counter from Tinsukia railway station, in a letter addressed to the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Tinsukia Division.
Nishant Thard, State president of NHRCCB, Assam expressed deep concern over the closure of the one of oldest reservation counters of Assam at the old Tinsukia railway station. This closure has resulted in the shifting of the passenger train ticket issuing facility to a considerably smaller space, which lacks adequate seating, drinking water facilities, and toilets. The NHRCCB also drew attention to the recent call for transgender toilets in all public places and government offices.
Furthermore, another issue highlighted in the NHRCCB’s letter pertains to the conversion of the parking space at the Tinsukia old railway station, formerly designated for vehicles, into a truck-loading area. In response to these concerns, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Tinsukia Division was urged by the organization to reopen the old railway reservation counter to enhance passenger convenience and provide a more comfortable ticketing experience. The NHRCCB aslo stated in the letter to cease the operation of the truck loading stand at the old railway station and allocate the area once again for vehicle parking, facilitating the needs of passengers and visitors.
These proposed actions align with the vision of providing essential amenities and facilities, ensuring that the Tinsukia railway station meets the expectations of modern travelers. The Divisional Railway Manager has been called upon to promptly address these issues in the interest of passenger satisfaction and adher to national standards of accessibility and convenience.
